Every City Council priority ultimately comes back to responsible governance. Alameda must balance important needs with limited resources. That means establishing priorities, understanding long-term costs, pursuing outside funding, measuring results and being transparent with taxpayers about how their money is spent. My legal and policy career taught me to examine the details, ask difficult questions and consider consequences before making decisions. I'll bring that discipline to City Hall.

As a Deputy Legislative Counsel, Maria advised legislators, conducted legal and policy research, testified before committees, and worked on roughly 100 bills in a typical session.
She later served as an attorney and adviser at the California Public Utilities Commission, working on regulatory matters affecting consumers and the public interest.
